Finished art:This can be any format of your choice- canvas/ paper/relief. It may be conceptual ,expressive or abstracted. You must write 1 paragraph to explain your piece.

Magic Realism project
In this project you are to bring 2 or more objects from home and arrange them in an unexpected composition. You really have to look at your composition to make it interesting...is there tension between your chosen objects? Too far apart and they loose each other... too close and they cramp it...if they touch, Why? You also have to be aware of the format- the size and shape of the page. How do the objects relate to it?Have a sense of humour!
Careful observation, attention to detail and light are really important with this project.
The project is inspired by the work of Scott Fraser, an American artist with brilliant technique and a great sense of whimsey.
collage book
As a starter project we are making collage books...
This should be an easy up and running project. This is helping me learn what the skills of the class are!
Important things to remember:
1/ Your book should have a theme. For example, memories of childhood or dreams or skateboarding
or historic fashion or cycling through France. Having a theme helps you narrow down your image search so that you're not randomly looking. It also helps to unify your collages.
2/ If you're stuck, start with a background- for example if your theme is "life at the beach" you can do a painting in sandy yellow ochres.
3/Try to use a variety of different mediums... collage with photos, found objects, wrappers, nice paper....add paint, pastel, india ink... layer with transparent papers, tissue, fabric, netting.
4/ Don't forget you can add items in the pockets and under the flaps.
5/ Try an image transfer
6/ Make sure things are glued well and it doesn't fall apart- it needs to be well crafted
7/ experiment, make mistakes, you can always have another bag!
